Story of Love in the bin
WHO IS
BANKSY?
Banksy is an English underground street art artist, political activist, and director who has been working since the 1990s
With his distinctive style of satirical street art and graffiti. Banksy's work can be found all over the world
WHY IS HE FAMOUS?
WALL GEOGRAPHY
BANKSY'S HOTEL
England, USA, Canada, Israel, Palestine, Mali, Spain, France, Ukraine, Australia
In addition to the street walls, Banksy also decorated the walls of the hotel in Bethlehem, the view from which — according to the owner — is the worst in the world. The hotel is a political statement by Banksy, who calls the project a cure for bigotry

WHAT'S THE POINT?
Black humor, sharp and powerful epigrams about different social and political problems of society
With stencils. One day, while hiding from English policemen, Banksy decided to start using stencils — it's faster
HOW DOES HE PAINT?
GRAFFITI "GIRL WITH BALLOON"
STORY OF THE
"GIRL WITH BALLOON"
2002
"Girl with balloon" appeared on the facade of a print shop in the Shoreditch district of London, on the waterfront in South Bank on the south bank of the Thames, in memory of the children who died in Syria and in support of young refugees.
The work was transferred in acrylic on canvas, inserted by Banksy himself into a frame, which looks very ironic in combination with the painting. At the exhibition "On the border of legality" presented to the new owner
Voted Britain's most beloved work of art, beating out works by Constable, Turner, Stubbs, Blake, and Gainsborough

"It appears

The painting was destroyed by a shredder built into that very frame
WHO ARRANGED IT?
WHOSE FAULT IS IT?
THE BUYER
WHAT HAS HE DECIDED?
There was an unknown person in the room who pressed the button, remotely activating the mechanism for destroying the painting
The lot was sold over the phone, but neither the buyer nor his representative at the auction disclosed their names. Coincidence? I don't think so...
Representatives of the auction said that the buyer is a "private client", who was surprised by what happened, but the painting was not rejected.
Banksy later said in his social networks that the auction house had nothing to do with it
WHAT HAPPENED?
— with this quote Banksy signed a video about destruction of the painting, which he published on YouTube the day after the auction

A CREATIVE URGE
THE IDEA
WHERE DID THE SHREDDER COME FROM?
EXTRAORDINARY VIDEO
A few years ago, Banksy built a shredder into the frame "in case it ever comes up for auction," which he described in his video, posted after the auction
The video shows the process of preparation for the show and how the painting had to be destroyed on actually — at the auction something didn't go as planned. At the end of the video the most interesting part!
NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN
THE DEVIL IS IN THE NAME
The artist's plan was to shred the entire painting rather than half of it, but the shredder failed him at the most crucial moment, and part of "Girl with a Balloon" remained unscathed. "It worked every time in rehearsal," Banksy says in the video.
The video has a very beautiful title:
"Shred the Love, the Director's Cut" (in the original it sounds much more powerful "Shred the Love, the Director's Cut", where "cut" can also be translated as "cut", which is symbolic)

BANKSY'S PHOLOSOPHY
A critique of the capitalist nature of the art market and the exorbitant prices of paintings
Banksy has repeatedly staged promotions to emphasize the accessibility and costliness of his work-in 2013, he personally sold his reprints in New York City's Central Park for $60
The transience and transience of human emotion in the age of social media and the joke on the talented and high-minded world of art
According to Banksy, street art is simply a way for the lower class to get revenge on the upper class. But in the case of Banksy, he achieves more than just an act of revenge through his work

WHAT HAPPENED?
The "self-destructed" painting was put up for auction again, where it was sold for more than $25 million
"The value has gone up not so much because of the change in the art object, but because of the conceptual event associated with it," explains art dealer Offer Waterman
I don't think that's what Banksy was after...
